Many new Internet marketers think that traffic, and especially targeted traffic, will just come to them because they have created their website and because they think their product offer is special enough to warrant their attention and consideration.

Unfortunately, it’s not that easy to gain traffic to your website. You need to realize that your website is one of billions, if not more, of sites on the World Wide Web. Essentially, your website is one needle in a giant haystack, and that haystack is the size of the world.

Now, how are people going to find you if you don’t let them know that you’re out there? Let’s face it, no one has enough time to go through every website online, and that would be impossible anyway because dozens of new sites are coming online everyday. Plus, people are not interested in searching through every site online anyway – they go online to the site or sites they either need or want to go to and that’s it. Many people are not willing to explore other websites and will only go to another website if they have reason to.

That is why you must let people know you’re out there and work to gain targeted traffic to your website; you need to let them know that there are compelling reasons why they should come to your website, as this is the only sure way that you can get them to come to your website and consider your offer(s).

Due to the hard economic times of today, including the lack of jobs and the continuous layoffs from companies, even if you’ve worked at those companies for 10-20 years, many people look toward the Internet to help them make ends meet and even provide the financial independence they never could seem to get from their offline occupations.

Their thinking is that if they can establish their own online businesses, they will be the ones in charge and working toward making themselves financially independent, not someone else. And being that many of the online “gurus” tell them that many people are doing it pretty easily, they think, “If they can do it, I can do it too!”

However, many people don’t realize when they try to get started online that it is not as easy as many of the “gurus” say it is. They don’t realize that you need a domain, dedicated web hosting, reliable autoresponders, and a product or service to sell. And that’s just for starters!

Even if you have all that, you’ll still need to get people to your web page to consider your product or service, and at the very least, get them to sign up to your list so you can follow up with them until you gain the sale. In other words, you’ll need traffic, and preferably, targeted traffic to visit your web page continuously if you are going to gain the sales and the financial independence you desire online.

Website Traffic Is WebsiteTraffic, Right?

To succeed in online business, you need many elements:

-    Domain Name
-    Dedicated Web Hosting
-    Reliable Autoresponders
-    A Consistent Flow Of Traffic
-    Convincing Sales Copy
-    Etc.

Regarding the traffic element mentioned above, this is critically important to your online success.  Without traffic coming to your website, it won’t matter if you have any or all of the other elements, as no one will know about your website or learn of your product offer.

However, there is a specific type of website traffic that will greatly increase your chances of online success, and that type of traffic is known as “targeted traffic.”

Targeted traffic is where the traffic that comes to your web page is interested in your product offer from the moment he/she arrives at your web page.  Conversely, “untargeted traffic” is where the traffic that comes to your web page is not interested in your product offer from the time he/she arrives at your web page.

Naturally, it will be much easier to convert targeted traffic into buyers than it would converting untargeted traffic into buyers.  Targeted traffic will have an initial interest in a product or service you are offering; they may even have come to your website because they were specifically looking for something similar to what you are offering.

Untargeted traffic will likely have just stumbled onto your website by accident, perhaps confusing your domain name with something else they were looking for or thinking your website would be about something else.  When they get to your web page, they will likely leave just as quickly because the subject matter you are dealing with does not interest them.
